01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
On the first floor of Kanda Square, ポワン エ リーニュ 神田スクエア店 makes an assortment of breads the focus of its meals. At lunch, small pieces of house-made bread make it easy to sample several varieties a little at a time. There is a toaster by the bread, so you can warm each piece to your liking and bring out its toasted aroma. There are several ways to vary each bite: six dips arrive at the table first, and bread can also be dipped into the sauce served with a main dish such as chicken.
The bread selection has plenty of character, from Piyotoru (ピヨトル), generously filled with walnuts and white grapes and raisins, to Anbiser (アンビザー), a smooth red bean paste bun with notes of olive oil and brown sugar. The range brings together different levels of sweetness and textures. Other tempting choices to take away include 桂, a triangular croissant made without sugar that draws on the germ’s sweetness and the flavour of butter, and canelés baked crisp on the outside and chewy within.
The interior has a calm, muted tone, and there are also terrace seats under the building’s eaves; on fine days, it is possible to stop by with a dog. Coffee or muscat green tea alongside the bread makes this a place to take your time and enjoy the flavours.
